PARKING LOT GARDEN

During the summer of 2005 Wild About Birds "adopted" one of the parking lot islands in front of the shop. We landscaped the island with bird friendly plants, a birdfeeder, nesting box and birdbath. The plants we included are serviceberry, China holly, feather reed grass, purple coneflower, black-eyed Susan, aster, yarrow, liatris, coreopsis, and mullien. We also have a new bench on the sidewalk in front of the shop and we can lend you a pair of binoculars, so come on over and watch the birds!

Our garden has really taken off this year - as you can see from these photos! We are attracting several different species of birds to our feeders and birdbath: House Sparrow, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Northern Cardinal, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, American Robin, Common Grackle, Mourning Dove, Ruby-throated Hummingbird (we have a hummingbird feeder both in the garden and on the sidewalk in front of the shop - the hummers visit both feeders regularly), Red-bellied Woodpecker (a rare visitor last fall & winter). |
