Parking Lot Garden - BEFORE | During the summer of 2005 Wild About Birds "adopted" one of the parking lot islands in front of the shop. We landscaped the island with bird friendly plants, a birdfeeder, nesting box and birdbath. The plants we included are serviceberry, China holly, feather reed grass, purple coneflower, black-eyed Susan, aster, yarrow, liatris, coreopsis, and mullien. We also have a new bench on the sidewalk in front of the shop and we can lend you a pair of binoculars, so come on over and watch the birds! | Parking Lot Garden - AFTER!!! | | | | Our garden has really taken off this year - as you can see from this photo! We are attracting several different species of birds to our feeders and birdbath: House Sparrow, House Finch, American Goldfinch, Northern Cardinal, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, American Robin, Common Grackle, Mourning Dove, Ruby-throated Hummingbird (we have a hummingbird feeder both in the garden and on the sidewalk in front of the shop - the hummers visit both feeders regularly), Red-bellied Woodpecker (a rare visitor last fall & winter). |
